Not exactly homemade, at least not in this century, but while we're on the subject of foot torture this thing would fit right in.

That would be expensive footwear for pre-modern times, so I figure not a fixture of every home, except for the privileged few. One can imagine the lord of the manor kidnapping innocent and good-looking peasant girls to try that anti-Cinderella slipper on them. He would, of course, have a ball.
