Mr and Mrs Pendagrass at home. Mr. Pendagrass was very supportive of his wife, as he considered that she should have outside interests as well as running the family home. They are joined by there son Bartholomew, who assists his mother at the local facility

This subject appears to be enduring some severe treatment. The therapy mostly consist of lashing with a whip over an extended period, usually a week. It is unclear as to the likely objectives.

There were many discarded polaroid pictures discovered in abandoned facilities, this is one of many, how many is not known, of course.

Three curious illustrations. They appear to depict various types of restraint, possibly for treatment or punishment, or both.

These seem to depict some form of rehearsal perhaps? Possibly a flogging in the courtyard or in a public place? The time period looks around the mid to late 20's. The images are in good condition for the years.

From what can be ascertained, this is likely to be Albert Dinsdale, notorious for his skills and severity with a whip. He was one of the first employees after the creation of the NRC.

A courtroom illustration tells the story of Jenny Cooper. She was convicted of theft. It was deemed that it stemmed from her general behaviour, as there were (unsubstantiated) reports as to her mental instability. She was sentenced to 40 lashes at a public flogging and referred to the newly established NRC for further rehabilitation. (Circa 1926)

It is thought that the introduction of flogging or use of a whip of any kind did actually happen quite early on. Records indicate that subjects were instructed to grip to upright poles while a whip is administered across the upper back. The amount of lashes is estimated somewhere between 20-30 per session.
