Several hours were required to locate and try to capture the Count. The King's men had no luck in that quest, since the Count fought so fiercely and killed so many men that he himself was mortally wounded. Thus, when the Chief Inquisitor finally came down to the dungeon, he had specific and merciless instructions from the King.

"Countess, you stand accused and convicted of High Treason. The penalty for such a heinous crime is death by fire, but the King has decided on a sterner end for you since your husband did no survive to receive a fitting punishment. Though his head is mounted on a pike before the Palace, the King has decided that your head will not join his until you have been executed by slow torture. Inquisitor, your instructions are to make the Countess' punishment as severe as you are able."

"I will make sure of that," the Princess said with a cruel smile.

"I have no doubt of that. Very well, do your duty, Executioner!"

The first step in the Countess' execution is to release her from the Rack, which has to be done slowly and carefully to avoid too great a shock to her well-stretched body. The executioner is well-experienced in dealing with the damage from the Rack, and the captive is eventually freed from the horrible device and her dislocated joints skillfully put back into their sockets.

"Instead of burning the Countess at the stake, I think we'll proceed more slowly and methodically," the executioner states. "In fact, we'll start by fully roasting the Countess' delectable bosom." Even the inquisitioner priest is aroused upon hearing this, and he decides to remain in the dungeon for this first stage of the traitor's execution.

It did not take the executioner long to have the Countess' hanging from the Tower Winch by her knees. The poor doomed woman had not really comprehended the sentence proclaimed by the King even when the executioner coated her trembling breasts with a thick coating of grease to protect her skin from burning too quickly. But, as a flaming brazier was slid under her naked body and she felt the rising heat playing about her lush, dangling bosom, horrified dread shot through her at the realization of what these fiends intended to do to her.
