Jess Franco recommendations?

Post by A Canadian »

Apparently, a new 4k edition of Jess Franco's 1987 film, Faceless, was slated to be announced this weekend at something called the Texas Frightmare Weekend.

This has me thinking I'm probably long overdue to start exploring some of this legendary hall of famer's filmography.

I'm going into this totally cold. To the best of my knowledge, I don't think I've ever seen any of his movies.

One of his titles - Venus in Furs - is available for free on Tubi, so I may check that one out. But I'm also looking for advice from the experts. I'm wondering if anyone can recommend some top titles I should pursue.

Any recommendations (including titles to avoid :D) would be greatly appreciated.

For this forum, strong recommendation for his classic WIP film with Dyanne Thorne, which goes by many names, the most common ones are:

"Greta The Torturer"
"Wanda, The Wicked Warden"
"Ilsa, The Wicked Warden" (renamed to capitalize on Thorne's appearance in the film)

A glorious piece of GIMP sleaze.

Take a look here. Lots of titles to look for. One in particular that I have seen is the Bloody Judge with Christopher Lee.

Thanks for the suggestions. The multi-titled wicked warden one with Dyanne Thorne sounds particularly interesting. 👍
