Like so many things, the answer is: it depends...
AI is a very broad topic, but I suppose you mean AI image generation?
For AI image generation, you can go two routes:
1. Online AI image generators
2. Install an AI image generator on your own PC
1. Online image generators:
There are plenty of those available, just do a Google search for "AI image generator" and you'll get hundreds of suggestions.
They all work in pretty much the same way: You enter a text prompt and the tool generates an image from it.
Most of them can be used for free with some limitations: x images per day or something like that. If you want to use it more, you'll have to pay...
One example is DeepAI, which you'll find here, free to try:

CivitAI, the premier online AI community also runs it own online AI generator, which is a good starting point:

Unfortunately, many of the online AI generators are censored: no nudity... which makes them less suitable for GIMP purposes!
2. Install an AI image generator on your own PC:
This is the more advanced option:
Download the entire AI model, like Stable Diffusion or Flux, and run it locally on your own PC. This requires some technical prowess (which is not that hard to overcome) and, above all, a powerful PC. The graphics card is the key here, since that is what the AI model uses.
The advantage here is that it's (usually) free and that you have total freedom to use it as you want, the limitations of online AI generators is not a problem!
There are several ways to install AI on you own PC, but I myself use the Krita AI Diffusion, which works as an addon to the free open source Krita paint program:
- Install Krita:

- Install the AI Diffusion plugin:

- Download and install any AI model you want from CivitAI:
