A question or two?

Post by moss »

Are you really hoping to put all the old posts up from the previous forum? OR.... Is it best to just start posting all my old stuff again? I don't want to bore people with repeats and don't want to overload the system.
Are small gifs allowed now?
I was putting my efforts in the art section under one heading.

Very pertinent question I think. I'm also reluctant re-starting old threads since IF they reappear later (which is still uncertain at this moment) there will be duplicates which must be merged, meaning another load of work for the site owner, something she surely doesn't need at this point.
Thus, like many old (re-registered) members of this forum I'm waiting to see how the situation will progress before posting anything or (re) starting a thread .

That's what I'm doing too.

The original problem is in those old posts, not all of them, but many of them. So, what's the best solution? For one or two people to do the work of the many, or for the many to do some work?

What I would do is to make the many do the work of the many. In other words, rebuild the forum with the help of all. Which means, go ahead, re do your threads, topics and posts. The difference is that you won't be able to attach large pictures, over 500 kb, or Gifs that are huuuuuuge. I'm talking about over 90 mbs per post. That won't work anymore.

If we were to re connect the old posts, which right now are creating an overload in our system and they are not even stored in the forum, we would, again, run into big trouble.

We migrated all our sites, including ralphus.net, to a better hosting plan. We're still working with that. Two of the sites have problems, one hasn't been migrated yet. We're going over all of the bugs and issues and characteristics and making decisions, like setting the limits for file usage, which right now, because of the old files is at 84%! That's simply not good.

Most forums I see are only text, very few work with images and they have limitations.

So, we'll keep on working on this until we're done. If you want to bring back your old posts and images, go right ahead.

There are not so many of you and if you keep the size manageable, then we're ok.

Thanks Margot, I've got it now. It is very sensible that we do the work, after all, you have a life to live as well. I appreciate this site very much and only post on here. So... let the battle commence. The flood gates are officially open.
There may even be some who have not seen the vast store of incredible stuff that has appeared previously. When I like something a lot I don't mind repeats.

I certainly don't have a problem 'starting over'. After a while it becomes hard to remember what you've posted, and trying to sort out what I have posted complicates trying to keep it all organized. That I post in another forum makes that even worse. I've always tried to not 'repeat' posts, but this is a different situation, so I'll gladly do my part.
Again, thank you Margot and all who work so hard for this forum.

I second that, thanks a lot.
