I missed the linked pics. The view from the terrace is my favorite. I’ve said it before, you do perspective very well. I had a flash-back to the terrace scene in Ben-hut with Charleston Heston.

To get a good understanding of the light of embers, like in the image I try to recreate, I did a few studies, might be interesting for some of you. Tryout, no portfolio grade.

Good illustration, JD. I don't know how you created it, but I have to do a bit of a dance with Daz Studio. If I increase the emitted light from the glowing coals until it gives a good reflection on the character, the coals (or the flames) become so bright that all definition is lost. So I use a Daz model called a Ghostlight, which emits light but isn't visible. In your illustration, I'd use a circular, upward pointing ghostlight sized to fit the brazier and positioned just above the coals and play with the luminosity intensity and color to get the effect I want on the character while I'd reduce the emission intensity of the coals (or the flames) until I could see the flames like I think they ought to look.

Whew! Does that description sound like anything you do in Poser?

Yeah, they are all functions of the physics based renderers. In Poser you have extra options for higher quality for indirect lights and in Materials Tab one can reduce the Diffuse channel (responsible with the colour of the embers in this case) while increasing the Ambient channel, that's the light emitter. Need a bit of balancing act but no need for extras.

Here it is. Hope you like it. Not as good as bluemune's 2D to 3D renderings but I liked the original drawing so that's it.
